Emilio Chuvieco es Catedrático de Geografía de la Universidad de Alcalá y director de la cátedra de ética ambiental UAH. Coordina el Grupo de Investigación en Teledetección Ambiental.
Ha sido galardonado con el Premio Jaume I a la Protección del Medio Ambiente 2022. También obtuvo el premio de investigación del Consejo Social de la Universidad de Alcalá en 2000; el de investigación sobre incendios forestales del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente “Batefuegos de oro” en 2004, y el de excelencia en la dirección de tesis doctorales de la Universidad de Alcalá en 2016. En 2021 recibió el premio a la excelencia investigadora de la Universidad de Alcalá y la medalla de honor de la misma institución. Se encuentra en el 'Ranking of the World Scientists: World´s Top 2% Scientists' de la Universidad de Stanford desde 2020 en el área de Ingeniería Geológica y Geomática.
Ha sido investigador visitante en las Universidades de Oxford, Berkeley, Cambridge, Santa Barbara, Maryland, Oxford, el Centro Canadiense de Teledetección. Ha coordinado 39 proyectos y 25 contratos de investigación. Ha dirigido 44 tesis doctorales. Es autor de 33 libros y de 432 artículos científicos, Tiene un índice h de 72 según Scopus (>15.300 citas) y de 92 según Google Scholar (>32.900 citas) (datos para Febrero de 2025). Tiene 6 sexenios de investigación reconocidos y 1 de transferencia. Ha sido presidente de la Asociación Española de Teledetección y del grupo de Tecnologías de la Informacion Geográfica de la Asociacion de Geógrafos Españoles. Lider científico del proyecto Fire CCI de la Agencia Espacial Europea desde 2010 y coordinador científico del proyecto europeo FirEUrisk. Co-editor principal de Remote Sensing of Environment desde 2015 a Marzo de 2020. En enero de 2025 ha sido elegido académico numerario de la Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales.

Professor of Geography and director of the Environmental Ethics chair at the University of Alcalá, Spain, where he leads the "Environmental Remote Sensing Research Group".
He has received the Rei Jaume I award for Environmental Protection in 2022, Previously, he obtained the research award of the Social Council of the University of Alcalá in 2000, the national award on forest fire research in 2004, the award as advisor of Ph.D. dissertations in 2016, and the award on excellence research and medal distinction of University of Alcalá in 2021. He is within the 2% of most influential scientists in the Standford University ranking of the world scientists.
Visiting professor at the University of Oxford, U.C. Berkeley and Santa Barbara, Cambridge, the University of Maryland and the Canadian Remote Sensing Center. Advisor of 44 Ph.D. dissertations. Principal investigator of 39 research projects and 25 contracts.
