gis self learning tool

The GIS Self Learning Tool has been developed to enhance the teaching of GIS in the Department of Geomatics, across the University of Melbourne, and for distance education.

The GIS Self Learning Tool is comprised of a number of internet based interactive multimedia modules.

The modules developed are targeted to a range of subjects that expose student to both introductory and advanced concepts in GIS. The modules each have the following structure: theory, algorithms, worked examples, interactive examples, concluding with a test with feedback. Some general knowledge regarding GIS is assumed by each of the modules. There is a glossary available also.

Each module is developed by collaboration between departmental academic staff and multimedia specialists.

The modules contained within the GIS Self Learning Tool are being intergrated into current teaching in the Department of Geomatics. Evaluation and feedback is being monitored to aid in the continuing development of the site.
